A Day at Saint Louis Zoo!
We got up this morning and it’s such a beautiful day that we decided to take Hailey to the Saint Louis Zoo. I love the zoo! We hadn’t been to the zoo since 06 since the last time we went with Hailey and the boys as a family day.
They’ve added some new things at the zoo. They added this new learning feature at the entrance of the Hippo’s. Unfortunately none of the hippo’s were in the water, they were all sun basking up where a good photo couldn’t be taken.
Of course who can go through the zoo without seeing one of my favorite things .. Yep the elephants! In o6 we got to see a baby elephant … hmmm i wonder if one of these is that baby? Upon the entrance we saw a couple but they were kind of bashful and didn’t seem to want their picture taken.
Around the next bin we saw some more elephants and this one was not camera shy at all. I could of stayed and watched these elephants all day, but we had many other things to see, so we had to move on
Around the corner from the elephants we ran into this neat new addition .. at least i had never noticed it there before. This sign was beside it and I'm assuming the little pond by it is for the beavers but I'm assuming their hibernating for the winter?
I just love the new learning boards they have on display. Hailey enjoyed them as much as i did. I’m not sure Papa enjoyed them as he kept saying .. come on girls we’ve got more to see .. hehe
We had to walk into a cave like to see some fish and we found a wonderful place to get our picture taken. since we were the only ones in there we took turns. Doesn’t papa look so happy? He actually is, he just never smiles for a picture. come on papa, learn to smile for the camera!
Of course Grandma always smiles for the camera even though she hates her picture taken.
Of course we needed a break from all that walking and Hailey had to have some dip and dots! They actually hit the spot as it was in the 70’s with the sun shining. Here is Hailey enjoying her tasty treat … oops it was actually lunch but don’t tell mom … hehe
After our lunch we found another learning board. I just couldn’t resist them. I do believe these are for kids, but this big kid enjoyed them as well.
This one was the neatest one in my opinion. You lifted the block and it had different things in it.
How cool is that???
Of course, once again one can not go to the zoo and not see these .. i love seals or what ever they are. Of course the Gorilla is a favorite as well.
These were pretty neat, I'm not sure if they are like a kangaroo? I couldn’t find them on the signs … hmmm
Then we ran onto to this odd looking pig? Who knew they had pigs with needles? Ouch i bet it would hurt like heck to catch him and try to ring his nose? Sure glad these were not the pigs we raised on our farm.
Then it was Hailey favorite! yep Hailey’s favorite of the day was seeing the giraffe's! She was excited to get to see them and esp since she was getting tired. Well actually Grandma and Papa were exhausted but the giraffe's were a must see for Hailey and after all it was her day. What kind of grandparents would we be if we didn’t let Hailey see her favorite part .. right?
They had a baby giraffe! It was so adorable!
How about that .. last 2 times i’ve been to the zoo they’ve had a baby of something .. awesome!!
Hailey is pointing out the baby to Papa. She was tired, but we found a seat at the giraffes so we took advantage of enjoying them in comfort! Of course she was also enjoying the rest of her lunch .. Yep popcorn!
We finally found the bears, and i was so disappointed .. my favorite bears are gone! I enjoyed the polar bears and the grizzly but both those were empty .. how disappointing and these black bears just don’t do it for me … what a shame
The flamigo’s were out and about enjoying the sun, they are so beautiful
We finally found the a monkey! all the inside cages were empty and said they were in their outside home. This was all we found .. we didn’t see any orangutans … but we found this …
i’d say this was still up for Halloween, i thought it was pretty neat and enjoyed seeing it. Then we found the carousal another one of my favorites but we just admired and no riding today.
We found these bears to, but as you can see they were hibernating and could care less we were even there.
We had a wonderful day at the zoo, even though i was disappointed with the bears, it was still a wonderful day and memories that will last a life time with our beautiful little princess. This is the last weekend we will have Hailey for awhile as we will be heading to our winter destination soon. It was a great day but a sad one as well.
